Michael Kretschmer

Minister-President of the Free State of Saxony

Michael Kretschmer was born in Görlitz on 7 May 1975. He is Protestant and the father of two sons. Following his schooling, he completed an office IT technician’s ap- prenticeship and gained entrance to a university of applied science through this alternative educational path. From 1998 to 2002, he studied industrial engineering at Dresden University of Applied Sciences, obtaining his degree in 2002.

Michael Kretschmer began his political career as a city councillor in his hometown of Görlitz from 1994 to 1999. From 1993 to 2002, he was on the regional executive committee of the Young Union (Junge Union) of Saxony and Lower Silesia. On 23 April 2005, Michael Kretschmer was elected secretary general of Saxony’s CDU party, and was confirmed in office several times thereafter. He has been the leader of Saxony’s CDU regional association since 9 December 2017.

He was first elected to Germany’s Bundestag as a direct candidate in the Görlitz electorate in 2002, and remained a member until 2017. From 2005 to 2009, he was the deputy chair of the Education and Research work group run by the CDU/CSU parliamentary party in the German Bundestag. Michael Kretschmer was deputy party leader, with portfolios in education and research, art, culture and media, from 2009 to 2017. From the German federal election in 2013 to September 2017, Michael Kretschmer was also the leader of the Saxon regional group within the CDU/CSU party in the German Bundestag.

On 22 August 2017, Michael Kretschmer was elected president of the Sächsischer Volkshochschulverband e. V. (Saxon association for adult education centres). He is also involved with the “Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau” development association.

On 13 December 2017, Michael Kretschmer was elected Minister-President of the Free State of Saxony.

Martin Dulig

Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport, and Deputy Premier of the Free State of Saxony

Martin Dulig was born in Plauen/Vogtland in 1974. He is married with six children.

In 1990, he began vocational training as a skilled construction worker, which he completed with his Abitur (German school-leaving examination). From 1992-1998, Martin Dulig worked as a youth education advisor at the SPD Saxony. He successfully completed his educational sciences course at the Dresden University of Technol- ogy in 2004. During his studies, he worked as a freelance coach in adult education.

Martin Dulig has been a member of the Saxon State Parliament since 2004, and was chairman of the SPD state parliament group from 2007 to 2014. He has been the Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport since November 2014.

He is also involved in various non-profit associations such as the Netzwerk für Demokratie und Courage e. V., and is a member of the ver.di trade union and the Workers’ Welfare Association (AWO). In his hometown of Moritzburg, Martin Dulig is a member of the local council, and active within the Protestant church community.

Dr. Markus Eisel

Dr. Markus Eisel, born in 1963, studied geophysics at Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. From 1992 to 1999 he worked at GeoForschungsZentrum in Potsdam as research associate and received a PhD from Free University in Berlin in 1994. With a postdoc grant from Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and Deutsch- er Akademischer Austauschdienst he spent two years as research fellow at the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State Univ., invetigating the relations between natural electromagnetic fields and earthquakes. In 1999 he started his career in the IT industry as a Senior Consultant Networks & Security at S.E.S.A. AG, Eschborn. A year later he became the manager of the department Telecommunication und Networks. After the acquisition of S.E.S.A. by Scandinavian com- pany TietoEnator he became manager of the department Consulting & New Technologies. In 2007 Dr. Eisel and his colleague Markus Hartmann founded SyroCon Con- sulting GmbH. He acts as managing director and is responsible for Business Development and Sales. SyroCon sees the Industrial Internet as one of the major pillars of the Digital Transformation.

Prof. Gerhard Fettweis

Vodafone Chair Professor, TU Dresden

'Prof. Gerhard Fettweis is holder of the Vodafone Chair Mobile Communications Systems at the TU Dresden and one of the most knowledgable experts on 5G. In his speech, he will compare the capabilities that 5G originally aimed for with the actual 3GPP standardization and its limited possibilities. He will also address the plans of the German Federal Government concerning the frequency auction for 5G and explain why he thinks that these plans are actually the best way to obstruct a fast 5G. As a conclusion, Prof. Fettweis will outline which aspects of regulation and technology are still to be fixed and what might actually have to be resolved only with 6G.'

Gerhard P. Fettweis earned his Ph.D. under H. Meyr's supervision from RWTH Aachen in 1990. After one year at IBM Research in San Jose, CA, he moved to TCSI Inc., Berkeley, CA. Since 1994 he is Vodafone Chair Professor at TU Dresden, Germany, with 20 companies from Asia/Europe/US sponsoring his research on wireless trans- mission and chip design. He coordinates the 5G Lab Germany, and 2 German Science Foundation (DFG) centers at TU Dresden, namely cfaed and HAEC. Gerhard is IEEE Fellow, member of the German Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina), the German Academy of Engineering (acatech), and received multiple IEEE recognitions as well has the VDE ring of honor. In Dresden his team has spun-out sixteen start-ups, and setup funded projects in volume of close to EUR 1/2 billion. He co-chairs the IEEE 5G Initiative, and has helped organizing IEEE conferences, most notably as TPC Chair of ICC 2009 and of TTM 2012, and as General Chair of VTC Spring 2013 and DATE 2014.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Frank H. P. Fitzek

Head of Deutsche Telekom Communication Networks at TU Dresden

Frank H. P. Fitzek is a Professor and head of the “Deutsche Telekom Chair of Communication Networks” at TU Dresden coordinating the 5G Lab Germany. He is the spokesman of the DFG Cluster of Excellence CeTI. He received his diploma (Dipl.-Ing.) degree in electrical engineering from the University of Technology – Rheinisch- Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) – Aachen, Germany, in 1997 and his Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University Berlin, Germany in 2002 and became Adjunct Professor at the University of Ferrara, Italy in the same year. In 2003 he joined Aalborg University as Associate Professor and later be- came Professor. He co-founded several start-up companies starting with acticom GmbH in Berlin in 1999. He has visited various research institutes including Mass- achusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), VTT, and Arizona State University. In 2005 he won the YRP award for the work on MIMO MDC and received the Young Elite Researcher Award of Denmark. He was selected to receive the NOKIA Champion Award several times in a row from 2007 to 2011. In 2008 he was awarded the Nokia Achievement Award for his work on cooperative networks. In 2011 he received the SAPERE AUDE research grant from the Danish government and in 2012 he received the Vodafone Innovation prize. In 2015 he was awarded the honorary degree “Doctor Honoris Causa” from Budapest University of Technology and Economy (BUTE). His current research interests are in the areas of wireless and 5G communication networks, network coding, cloud computing, compressed sensing, cross layer as well as energy efficient protocol design and cooperative networking.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Form

Head of Electronics and Vehicle Research, Volkswagen Group Research, Volkswagen AG

Born 1959, Thomas Form studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Braunschweig, Germany, joined the Institute for Communication Engineering as research fellow in 1987 and received his Ph.D. in 1992. Up to 2002 he worked as a senior engineer in the Centre for Electromagnetic Compatibility of Volkswagen AG. In 2002 Dr. Form was appointed as the head of Telephone-/Telematics and Antenna systems development.

He became a professor for „Electronic Vehicle Systems“ in the Institute of Control Engineering at the Technical University Braunschweig in 2005 and participated with the CAROLO-Team in the finals of the DARPA URBAN Challenge 2007. From 2007 to 2009 he was responsible for concept development, module- and project man- agement in the VW Electric/Electronic development. In 2009 he was appointed as head of the “Electronics and Vehicle Research” within Volkswagen Group research. Major achievements were the presentation of AUDI “Jack” vehicle driving in L3 automatic mode with Journalists from San Francisco to CES 2015 in Las Vegas and the presentation of the autonomous driving pod “SEDRIC” in 2017. Since 2016 he is the coordinator of the German national funded project PEGASUS which wants to an- swer the ques-tion “L3 Highway Chauffeur - how safe is safe enough and how to prove it”.

He got the Uni-DAS e.V. ADAS Award for significant influence on the development and introduction of driver assistance systems in 2017.

Hartmut kremling

Hartmut Kremling has over 30 years of experience in the telecommunications sector. He has held numerous management positions with network opera- tors - for example, he was Head of Customer Service at Mannesmann Mobilfunk, CEO of tele.ring in Austria and CTO of Arcor. From 2004 to 2013 he was responsible for network and IT in Germany, later Central Europe (Germany, Hungary, Holland and Czech Republic) as CTO at Vodafone. Mr Kremling is a true mobile telecommunications pioneer: At the beginning of the 1990s he built the first GSM network (2G) as regional director for eastern Germany in Dres- den and later 3G and 4G networks as CTO throughout Germany.

Today Mr Kremling works as a consultant, focusing on the development of the next mobile telecommunications standard 5G.

Dr. Alexander Lautz

Dr. Alexander Lautz is currently Senior Vice President 5G. In this role, he is responsible for 5G from a business and technology part across all business units and is lead- ing Deutsche Telekom´s 5G projects and initiatives.

Mr. Lautz joined T-Mobile Deutschland GmbH in 2002, initially as Head of Business Marketing, before taking over as Head of Consumer Marketing in 2004. When Deutsche Telekom launched congstar as its second brand in Germany in 2007, Mr. Lautz took over as Managing Director of the newly-founded company. In 2011, he moved to T-Systems International GmbH, where he was responsible for implementing innovative B2B2C products and solutions within the business units Connected Car and later Connecting Customers. Prior to 5G Mr. Lautz he led the groupwide IoT/M2M activities of Deutsche Telekom from 2014-2017.

Before his career at Deutsche Telekom, Mr. Lautz held different management positions at both CNI GmbH and Mannesmann Arcor AG and was Managing Director of an IP provider for business customers. After completing his apprenticeship with Deutsche Bank in 1988, Mr. Lautz studied Economics at the University of St. Gallen, where he graduated with a Ph.D. in 1995. In 2016 he participated in an Executive Education Program at Stanford University, Graduate School of Business.

Prof. dr. Georg Prinz zur Lippe

oriented German vintners who are committed to terroir-driven viticulture at the highest level. In addition to the winery, Prinz zur Lippe is also committed to other areas of business.

Furthermore, Prinz zur Lippe is not only active in his own company but also externally in advisory and supervisory functions and as honorary professor at universities.

Dr. Helge Erik Lüders

Dr. Heinrich Lücken

Dr. Kai Martius

Dr. Kai Martius has been Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of secunet since 2015. Before he joined secunet in 1999, he studied electrical engineering at Dresden University of Technology, and acquired his doctorate in the field of internet security protocols there. After various positions in development of secunet core products, between 2007 and 2015 he headed the Division High Security / Public Sector.

Dr. Martius played a decisive role in the development of SINA and also has extensive experience in conception, implementation and application of secu-rity products in the public sector en-vironment. Recently the influence of new technologies such as SDN / NFV and cloud technologies on secunet’s product strategy have come into the focus of the technology strategy he is responsible for in his role as CTO.

Dr. Andreas Müller

Dr. Andreas Müller is the Head of Communication and Network Technology in the Corporate Research Department of Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany. In ad- dition to that, he coordinates the 5G activities of Bosch in the industrial domain across various business units. Since April 2018 he has also been the Chairman of the Board of the “5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation” (5G-ACIA), which was established in order to make sure that 5G for the industrial domain becomes a success. This is achieved by providing a global forum for discussing related technical, regulatory and business aspects and by brining all relevant stakeholders togeth- er.

Prior to joining Bosch, Andreas was a Research Staff Member at the Institute of Telecommunications of the University of Stuttgart, Germany, where he was contribut- ing to the further development of the 3GPP Long Term Evolution towards LTE-Advanced. Besides this, he also worked as a Systems Engineer for Rohde & Schwarz, de- veloping a novel software- defined radio based communication system for the German Armed Forces. Andreas holds a German Diploma degree as well as a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (with distinction) and an M.Sc. degree in Information Technology, all from the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Hamid-Reza Nazeman joined Qualcomm as Country Manager for Germany and Central Europe in June 2010. He represents Qualcomm in Germany and leads the local corporate business development. He works with local operators, regulators, ministries and other official bodies and expands Qualcomm’s next generation technologies in the ecosystem.

Hamid-Reza Nazeman has over 20 years of experience in the global telecommunications industry. Before joining Qualcomm, he served as Senior Vice President, telecommunications at Emirates Investment & Development in Dubai.  In this role he led the strategic planning process and performance man- agement of the private equity firm’s international investment portfolio in the telecommunications and technology sector. Furthermore, he spent two years as Chief Commercial Officer within an Orascom Telecom Holding property. Hamid-Reza has also held the position of Chief Marketing and Sales Offi- cer for the Deutsche Telekom Group in Croatia as well as several director positions for Deutsche Telekom Germany and Austria.

Hamid-Reza Nazeman received a master of business administration (MBA) in general management and finance from WHU Koblenz/Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Illinois, USA) and a master of computer science from Technical University of Aachen.

Horst L. Reufsteck

Chairman Digitaler Kreis

Since leaving Telekom Deutschland end of 2015 to retire, Horst Reufsteck has remained in the digital industry as an independent consultant. He is one of the founding members and chairman of Digitaler Kreis. Horst had a very successful career in the telecoms industry, mostly working for T-Mobile, starting in key account manage- ment and leaving as VP and general manager of Telekom Deutschland. He remains passionate about communication, digitization and the IoT, and strives to bring com- panies and people together to actively shape Germany’s future. Horst is a passionate golfer and loves to spend time with his children and grandchild.

Wolfram Rinner

Managing Director of GasLINE GmbH & Co. KG.

Wolfram Rinner has been Managing Director of GasLINE GmbH & Co. KG since 2016.

The company is owned by ten gas transmission and regional distribution companies and has a nationwide fibre-optic cable network spanning 28,000 km, which is con- tinuously being expanded.

Rinner’s goal is to develop GasLINE as a reliable infrastructure partner for the telecommunications industry with its constantly growing network capacities into a lead- ing fibre-optic service provider with a significant market share in Germany. Convinced of the crucial role optical fibres will play in the country’s digital future, he is pas- sionate about driving the expansion of fibre-optic cable networks in Germany.

Since 2017, Rinner has been a member of the extended executive committee of the Association of Telecommunications and Value-Added Services (VATM). He holds a degree from Stuttgart University where he studied Electrical Engineering, specialising in high-frequency technology.

Wolfram Rinner is married with one son.

Dr.-Ing. Diego Schierle moreno

Diego was born 1988 in Schwäbisch-Hall, Germany, and raised in Madrid, Spain. After studying in Germany, he worked on his PhD in mechanical engineering at the Ger- man-Aerospace-Center. He founded FLÜGELaeronautics after leaving his first startup (CIKONI) and a trip around the world witnessing traffic problems in cities every- where. He is the winner of the German High-Tech Award and JEC Asia Award.

What motivates you? “The one thing that motivates me the most is the future. And to face it without fear. I have a deep conviction that the future can be shaped by individuals, teams and associations that are willing to head towards the same goal. Furthermore, I am sure that technology will solve the world’s problems and improve people’s lives. Technology will open the door. Everytime.“

What are you sure about? “Nature remains the best teacher for any engineer and… no bird stands on a branch with spread wings after it has landed. Folding wings in mid-air will make the aircraft a relevant component for daily individual transport. Through focusing on connecting people with their desired destinations without build- ing new infrastructure and road management, we will experience better trips, have less stress, more time at home with our loved ones and overall a safer transport op- tion.”

Elisabeth Schloten

After a successful career in management consulting, working for McKinsey&Company, and international enterprises like Procter&Gamble and Vodafone, Elisabeth Schloten founded ECBM in 2017. She has led strategic and technical consulting projects, managed product development, sales and technology departments and deliv- ered both major technical and commercial projects. Her last position at Vodafone was Director Enterprise Partner Sales. With ECBM, Elisabeth drives digital transforma- tion in the Mittelstand and for public authorities.

Elisabeth spends most of her free time with her two sons and is a passionate runner.

Martin Schöll

Digital Product Manager, BYTON  GmbH

Martin Schöll is a Digital Product Manager at the mobility startup BYTON. Since he joined the company in 2017, Schöll has been responsible for the Digital Platform Strategy of BYTON, the BYTON mobile app and the Center of Excellence for Virtual and Augmented Reality at the locations Ismaning (Germany), Santa Clara (USA) and Shanghai (China). Previously he completed an 18-month management trainee program for BMW Junior Executives – also in the field of Digital Services and Digital Strat- egy in the three countries mentioned. Schöll completed two courses of study, an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and Management at Technical University of Munich and an Honors Degree in Technology Management at the Center for Digital Technology and Management in Munich. During and after his studies he gained va range of international and practical experience, amongst others at Harvard University in Cambridge, National University of Singapore and at Bain & Company, Roland Berger and Holtzbrinck Digital.

Dr. Hanna Schumacher

Dr. Hanna Schumacher leads and directs BYTON´s marketing strategy in Europe, responsible for planning, de-veloping, executing and monitoring all marketing activities. Dr. Schumacher joined BYTON in 2017, and since then she has also been responsible as a global lead for the company´s marketing content development and produc- tion as well as the creation of a lifestyle collection and its worldwide distribution strategy. Prior to BYTON, she held several senior positions at BMW Group, amongst others steering the marketing communications of BMWi, BMW iPerformance, THE NEXT 100 as well as leading the relating communications project teams. As a PhD Candidate and Research Specialist on the BMW postgraduate program, Dr. Schumacher developed the strategic field „price and brand from the customer’s point of view“: purchasing behavior of premium brand customers, product expectations, price effects on the brand image and purchase probabilities. Besides successfully com- pleting her PhD in Business Administration, she also holds a Diploma in Economics from the Ludwig-Maximilians Univer-sity in Munich.

Stefan Söderholm

Head of GNSS, Here Technologies

Stefan Söderholm is Head of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) at HERE Technologies, where he leads initiatives to improve GNSS accuracy and reliability in the company’s positioning products. This includes algorithm development and product specifications within the technology areas of precise point positioning (PPP), real time kinematic (RTK) positioning, anti- jamming and antispoofing. Prior to joining HERE, Stefan worked for over 18 years in various roles in the field of satellite naviga- tion. Stefan holds an MSc in experimental physics from Åbo Akademi University and an LSc in applied physics from University of Turku.

Dr.-Ing. Johannes Springer

Johannes Springer is responsible for the 5G Automotive Program at Deutsche Telekom in Group Technology and Innovation Headquarters.

Johannes studied Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering at Berlin Technical University. After his doctorate in 1992 he worked as head of department in the Institute of Ergonomics and Industrial Engineering, Aachen University of Technology (RWTH). In 1998 he joined Deutsche Telekom Group in various management positions. From 2004 to 2010 he worked as CTO/COO for Toll Collect, the GNSS and mobile networks based electronic tolling operator for trucks in Germany. From 2011 to 2016 he was Vice President Technology and Solution Design within the Strategic Business Unit Connected Car in T-Systems.

Johannes is active in various organizations, e.g. NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Network, Co-Lead in V2X Task Force) and DGON (German Association of Navigation, Ad- visory Board).

In 5GAA (5G Automotive Association) he is active in the “Use Cases” and “Business Models” working groups, and since July 2018, he is the Director General of the 5GAA.

Dirk Strohmenger


Dirk Strohmenger was admitted to the bar in 1999. Initially, he was a member of a medium-sized law firm consisting of lawyers, tax consultants and auditors. From 2003 to 2012 he was a partner in a leading German commercial law firm. There he headed the IP/IT practice group and was responsible for the offices in Munich and Berlin. In 2009 he founded the law firm NAVIGATION.RECHT Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater based in Cologne. His clients are in the media, eCommerce and IT sectors.

Dr. Jens Struckmeier

CTO & Founder Cloud&Heat Technologies GmbH

Dr. Jens Struckmeier is a physicist, inventor and entrepreneur from Germany. Still a student, he was responsible for the planning of the first passive house in North Rhine-Westphalia, integrating an innovative heating system. Between 2000 and 2003 he worked as a project lead in device and software development in Santa Bar- bara, USA. From 2004 to 2009 he successfully managed a Nano-biology instrumentation company. In 2009 he started developing water cooling systems for data cen- ters, which lead to the foundation of the Green IT business Cloud&Heat Technologies. Since then, the vision of The Dresden-based company has been to make sus- tainability the driver of digital innovation. Dr. Karim Taga

Dr. Marc Thom

Marcus Thurand

Marcus Thurand is Director of Regional Implementation and Engineering of Telefónica Germany GmbH & Co. OHG since October 2017.

For the last several years he has been leading important projects as taking over the operational responsibility of the E-Plus network, running several RFQs for the out tasking of the NOC and Business Services.

Marcus Thurand began his career in Telefónica Germany (former Viag Interkom/O2) in 1997. He held a leading position as Head of Core Network Operations where he was responsible for the Management of the central Back Office. Then he became Head of Planning Operations, playing an active role in the development of all opera- tions tools until 2007.

He served as Head of Application Services (2007), Service and Operations Management (2008), Service Management Center (2009) and Service Operations Center (2010). During that time, Marcus Thurand assumed the responsibility of the service management for all telecommunication and hosting services.

He was appointed as Head of Mobile Access Engineering until 2012 and managed the 2G, 3G, LTE mobile network, playing a key role in radio design and strategy, cov- erage, parameter and capacity planning, network optimization.

Marcus Thurand was born in Berlin on 30 March 1967. He is married and father of two children.

Ronny Tischer

Ronny Tischer has been working for KOMSA since 2008. During his first few years at the company, his varied responsibilities centred on consulting and the sales of services for corporate clients. Antje Williams

Antje Williams is appointed as Executive Program Manager for Campus 4.0 since September, 2018. Campus 4.0 will develop solutions based on mobile technology (4G/5G) for industry parks, ware houses, logistic terminals etc. The solution will start on 4G frequencies to develop a 5G solution for the industry when 5G is available. Before this new appointment, Antje was leading for 3 years the 5G program within Deutsche Telekom is a holistic approach. Out of her role she drove all activities around 5G within the company including Architecture, Business, Standardazation, Industry fora like NGMN, GSMA, European initiatives as 5GPPP, Finance, Communica- tion and the 5G:haus (Telekom´s test bed for 5G).

Prior to this role Antje became Head of Inflight Connectivity and Managing Director of T-Mobile HotSpot GmbH (subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom). She was responsible offering Wifi access on board of 15 airlines (in 2014). Before joining the Inflight Team Antje was Head of Sales for the national Wholesale Department in Southern Ger- many for five years. Marc Yao
